I worked at OnPoint and it was truly a great experience, just because of how much love I have for the participants and how I felt like I was making a real difference in their lives. However, they have a high employee turnover rate for a reason. They are pretty preachy about self care but don’t give you the tools or time to practice it. Upper management promised me over and over again to help me find an in-network therapist (because the work itself can be traumatizing) and never followed through. They don’t stick to ratio in the OPC. I became physically disabled and asked for accommodations, and instead they fired me and deleted all of the evidence by locking me out of my work email. I think the organization does some great work, but some of the employees really shouldn’t be working there. It’s not the type of job you should take on if you don’t have a passion for harm reduction and the life experience to back it up. If you’re just there for a paycheck, you shouldn’t be there. I saw a lot of participants be mistreated and disrespected in the DIC and OPC. I really miss my job there because I worry about the participants that I grew close to and became invested in, but the workplace itself is very toxic to their employees. Several people quit the OPC during the time I worked there due to the conditions, toxicity, and being overworked and likely somewhat traumatized. I personally loved the work and felt at home there, and I was heartbroken to lose my job due to becoming disabled. I would have thought a place like OnPoint would have had more empathy for an employee becoming chronically ill and met me half way, but they threw me out like trash after I had given the job my all. I’d like to continue a career in harm reduction, and I hope that leaving this review doesn’t get me blacklisted from other organizations in the city, but I do feel I was treated unfairly (and illegally) when I became chronically ill with long covid, which was likely a result of catching covid several times at work. I’ve seen participants wait for so many hours to see their case workers that they just give up and leave to go cop. I brought a participant with blood poisoning to one of the nurse practitioners in order to get him on antibiotics and he was denied treatment. I ended up treating his wound myself every day until he was healed, which I do know how to do, but never received any training for, so it was just dumb luck that I was able to save him from hospitalization. I was also told by a supervisor that there “wasn’t time” to do wound care, but I just told them that it needed to be done, because it was part of my job. Employees are supposed to have regular check-ins with their direct supervisors, but I only had a few in the entire time I worked there due to RPICs being so overworked and overwhelmed. Ultimately I’m glad that OnPoint exists and do think that they are helping people, but employees quit often for a reason, and it sucks that I lost my dream job due to becoming chronically ill and that they wouldn’t work with me to help me keep the job when I went above and beyond for the participants. HR and upper management don’t care about the employees who are doing the boots on the ground work and see us as replaceable. My job in the OPC was everything to me, and losing my position while dealing with my health failing was a major blow for me, and I still haven’t been able to bounce back.

I cant begin to explain how much I appreciate everyone at OnPoint. I can tell you from experience that there is nothing you cant bring to them as an addict that they wont help you with, without judge- ment. I appreciate all the support they have given me over the past 2 1/2 years, from help with housing when I found myself in a situation where I needed housing to helping me to get into a program. They are just amazing people.

The WELLNESS CENTER, 2nd floor (acupuncture & massage) is excellent. The staff at the front door to NYHRE are a pleasant welcome upon entry and the staff in the wellness center are knowledgeable about holistic care, kind and super friendly. The harm reduction, medical and case management services are good as well.

Onpoint is doing a simply amazing job. Theyve truly embraced three concepts of harm reduction. They treat theyre clients with dignity and respect offer multiple services including acupuncture, acupressure meditation and more. Their supervised consumption site was designed to give their clients a safe place to use while ensuring they come to no harm.

A little chaotic and hectic but theyre great folks here offering Amazing services and harm reduction items and a syringe exchange too. I guess its kinda like a legal shooting gallery? I hear you can even smoke illegal drugs in smoke rooms too, but none of that stuff for me , Im an old man now 🤣

I love the staff there. Theyre always so polite and willing to help. I also feel bad for them at the same time, there are more grown adults that behave childlike then Ive ever seen in one area. I give them so much credit their patience.

Friendly warm safe nonjudgemental environment. They provide a drop in center where they do HIV & HEP-C testing, mental health services along with case management services, they have diverse groups and they provide holistic services as well. They treat people the way they should be treated, with dignity and respect no matter a persons present or past history.

HORRIBLE LOCATION TO PUT A DOPE GALLERY. DIRECTLY ACROSS FROM A DAY CARE CENTER, 1 BLOCK FROM A SENIOR LIVING APARTMENT BUILDING, 1 BLOCK FROM AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN EITHER DIRECTION. PUT IT IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS OF THE PEOPLE WHO THINK ITS A GREAT IDEA. YOU’D NEVER SEE A PLACE LIKE THIS IN MID-LOWER MANHATTAN, THEY WOULD NOT STAND FOR THIS!

There should be more places set up exactly like this. I just stopped in to use one of the 4 bathrooms they have that anyone can use and thats hard t ok find in NYC. Also its a harm reduction center to help those unfortunate ppl who have been caught up in bad situations.

A vital program for these times of rising opioid addiction and overdoses. This program tries to mediate both these unfortunate realities. OnPointNYC has a smorgasbord of services beyond an overdose prevention center.
